Born in 1963, he completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science at Towson State University in the United States of America. He then completed his master's degree in Political Science at the University of Rhode Island. He concluded his PhD thesis named "United Nations Interventions: An Examination of Peacekeeping And Peace Enforcement Operations" at Istanbul University and received the title of Doctor. Specializing in political science, political philosophy and ethics, Kurunç has held administrative and academic positions in many universities in Turkey.
