He graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Theology (1996). He completed his master's thesis titled "The Quran's view on Divine Books" in the Department of Tafsir at Istanbul University Faculty of Theology (1999). He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Manchester (United Kingdom), Department of Middle Eastern Studies, with a thesis titled "The application of modern critical theories to the study of the Qur’an – with a particular focus on Qur’anic studies in Turkey between 1980-2002" (2004). He served as a research fellow/guest researcher at the IIIS- Institute for International Integration Studies, Trinity College of Dublin, for postdoctoral research (2007). He conducted research at the University of Jordan as a TUBITAK post-doc researcher (2010-2011). Currently, he is a faculty member in the Department of Tafsir at Istanbul University Faculty of Theology, and he is proficient in English and Arabic.
