Short Biography

He completed his undergraduate (1986), master's (1988), and doctoral (1995) studies at Marmara University Faculty of Theology. In addition to his modern education, he took lessons from various professors in Arabic and Islamic sciences. He conducted research in the United Kingdom (1990) and served as a guest researcher at Harvard Law School (2006-2007). He worked as a researcher at the Center for Islamic Studies (TDV İslâm Araştırmaları Merkezi) (1996-2011). He served as a faculty member at Yalova University Faculty of Theology (2011-2014). He gave lectures and seminars on Islamic sciences at Kyrgyzstan Osh State University (2009), 29 May University (2012-2019), Ibn Haldun University (2019-2020), and various civil society organizations. He is currently a faculty member at Istanbul University Faculty of Theology. His main areas of interest include the Maturidi tradition, the Hanafi scholarly tradition in Transoxiana with a focus on Imam Maturidi, Ottoman legal thought and practice, the literature of legal opinions (fatwa), Islamic linguistics, and dialectics (khilaf and jadal).
