Short Biography

Associate Professor Dr. Alper Özpınar graduated from Istanbul Atatürk Science High School, followed by Boğaziçi University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and Yeditepe University with a Master's degree in Systems Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from Yıldız Technical University Institute of Science and Technology in Mechanical Engineering. His multidisciplinary academic background has provided him with a broad perspective in engineering and technology fields. Throughout his professional career spanning over twenty-five years, he has served as a consultant and project manager in information and communication technologies for various government institutions including the European Union, TÜBİTAK, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, as well as leading companies such as ABB, Toyota, Toyota Boshoku, Softtech, and TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries). His experiences in both public and private sectors have reinforced his mastery of practical applications of technological innovation. As a pioneer in smart cities, Özpınar developed Turkey's Reference National Architecture (RUMİ) for Smart Cities and serves as one of the academic advisors to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in this field. He has extensive experience in innovative applications and project management, including smart cities, smart energy grids, machine learning, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, and genetic algorithms. As one of the authors of the book series on Electrical Energy Technologies and Energy Efficiency, Özpınar has numerous studies, book chapters, and articles in artificial intelligence, machine learning, energy, demand-side management, environmental health and safety, renewable energy resources, industrial automation, and control. He has taken active roles in international projects focusing on sustainable technologies and digital transformation, supporting his expertise with academic publications and industrial applications. Currently, he continues his intensive work on Cloud Computing, Big Data, Industry 4.0, IoT, Digital Twin, and Smart City Applications, while teaching academic courses on artificial intelligence and machine learning, and conducting seminars and corporate training for industry professionals. He places special emphasis on participating in projects where technological innovation converges with sustainable development and societal benefit, researching the impacts of next-generation technologies on social transformation.
