Short Biography

Dr. Ayşe Şafak is a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Ibn Haldun University. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Tilburg University in the Netherlands, with a focus on cultural studies. She holds an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from McGill University in Canada and a B.A. in Psychology and Economics from Mount Holyoke College in the United States.

Prior to joining Ibn Haldun University, Dr. Şafak served as a research assistant at İzmir Katip Çelebi University between 2015 and 2024. Since 2024, she has also been working as an academic career advisor. Her research focuses on acculturation, refugee and immigrant experiences, intergroup relations, social identity, and migrant entrepreneurship. 

In addition to her academic work, Dr. Şafak has clinical experience in both Canada and Turkey, having worked as a therapist in institutional settings with expertise in psychodynamic and cognitive approaches. She is fluent in Turkish and English, and also speaks intermediate German and Spanish.
