Short Biography
Professor Gökhan Torlak read Economics at Istanbul University, from which he graduated in 1987. He subsequently undertook postgraduate study in the United Kingdom, earning an MA in Management Systems from the University of Hull in 1991 before completing his doctorate in Management Systems at the University of Lincoln in 1999. His academic formation reflects a sustained engagement with the intersection of systems thinking, management, and organisational inquiry.
Professor Torlak’s teaching and supervision span the fields of management, organisational behaviour, organisational theory, strategic management and action research (systems methodologies, creative managerial problem-solving, and multimethodology). He is particularly noted for bringing methodological rigour and intellectual breadth to the study of complex managerial and organisational phenomena.
His research is principally concerned with the development and application of systems methodologies, methods, and analytical techniques to methodological, managerial, and organisational problems, with a particular emphasis on complex decision contexts, organisational design, and problem-structuring interventions. His work advances the use of systems-based perspectives in addressing multifaceted challenges within contemporary organisations and institutional settings.
Professor Torlak is currently Professor of Management at Ibn Haldun University, where he contributes to the advancement of management through his research, teaching, and wider academic leadership in systems methodologies and organisational studies.
