Short Biography
Sümeyye Kaya Uyar is a faculty member at Ibn Haldun University, Department of Political Science and International Relations. She received her PhD in Political Science and International Relations from Koç University in 2023. As part of her doctoral dissertation, she collected a dataset on back-channel negotiations between democratic states and rebel groups. She worked as a head assistant and data coder for the Dangerous Companions project (San-Akca, 2016). Between 2021 and 2023, she worked as a researcher in a TÜBİTAK project. In 2022, she worked as a visiting researcher at the Institute for Scientific Interchange (ISI) in Italy as part of a project funded by the European Research Council and received training on big data analysis. Her research interests include quantitative analysis methods, terrorism, non-state armed groups, back-channel diplomacy, conflict resolution, and analysis. Her project, titled: “Media coverage of back-channel negotiations with rebel groups”, received TÜBİTAK 1002-A grant.
