He was born in Duisburg, Germany (1970). He graduated from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (1992). He completed his master's thesis on "Bay‘ah in Islamic Law" at Marmara University Faculty of Theology (1996) and his doctoral research on "The debate of al-ʻillah (cause) in the works of usul al-fiqh of the 5th Century A.H." (2001). He became an associate professor in 2012 and a professor in 2022. Currently, he works as a faculty member at Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Islamic Sciences.
